ANNA (WSIL) - The community came together to make sure their 2020 high school seniors had a graduation ceremony to remember.
Dozens of families and friends gathered at Anna City Park Saturday morning, while practicing social distancing and remaining in the groups that they arrived with.
The class president and valedictorian gave a speech, and a local judge handed out diplomas as students walked across the stage.
Parent Katie Goss says so many people volunteered to make the ceremony happen that it was planned in less than two weeks.
Goss says she and other volunteers hope the students enjoy every minute of it and make the most of each day they have.
"We had tons of parents that came together and said 'Let's do something for our seniors that had a really, really hard time," Goss says. "This is something they need as seniors, with everything they've been through, I think this is an amazing thing for them."
Goss adds that a few seniors have already left for the military, many plan to go away to college and others plan to stay in the community.
"They're going to do awesome things," she agrees with another parent and volunteer.
The school held its official graduation ceremony later Saturday evening with a drive-through celebration at the Anna-Jonesboro High School.
