CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- She was an 18-year-old, beginning her freshman year at ľĹÓÎĚĺÓý Illinois University. But life was cut short when she was shot and killed early Sunday morning in Carbondale.

News 3 was at the SIU Student Center Ballrooms where the room was filled with a somber mood. The speakers Wednesday night shared some remarks to help encourage the community.

It was an emotional night as the SIU Community gathered to remember Jackson.

"To those who knew and love Keeshanna, they describe her as 'fun to be around and always having something to talk about. She knew what she wanted, she was driven," said SIU Chancellor, Austin Lane.

Local pastors came to speak, hoping to uplift the audience during this time of grief.

"It shall come to pass. I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh. Your sons and daughters will prophesize. Your old will dream dreams and your young will see visions," said Father Joseph Brown.

"Paul tells the church at Thessalonica that you ought to comfort one another. The fourth chapter tells us after all that has been said and done make sure, make sure that you comfort each other," said Pastor Darryl Cox.

In between speeches were musical performances, and the room was left with remarks to look within themselves to better the community.

"As part of Saluki Nation Family, that we will let this tragedy serve as something that can change us," said SIU Associate Chancellor, Wendell Williams.

In honor of Jackson's memory, the SIU Foundation has set up a scholarship to support a future SIU student from her high school. For more information, click .
