CARTERVILLE, Ill. (WSIL) -- John A. Logan College is soon launching a new program to welcome in students to attend school for free.

They called it the Promise Scholarship Program, which is a new innovative program to provide last-dollar scholarships to participating students which allows them to attend the college at no cost.Ìý

This is for students in high school within JALC's district.

According to the college, the new Promise Scholarship will cover the cost after financial aid and other scholarships have been applied.

Students also must meet requirements for the new program to be eligible, including enrolling in their freshman year of high school, maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0, with a 90% or higher attendance rate each year, complete four years of high school math, six credit hours of dual credit/early college/transitional courses, along with completing the JALC College 101 course.

If these students meet the requirements, this will significantly reduce the costs for students for their high education.

“This is an exciting step forward for our community, said Dr. Kirk Overstreet, President of John A. Logan College. “The Promise Scholarship is more than just financial support; it’s an investment in our students futures. JALC stated this shows the strong collaboration between the college and the district high schools and shares a commitment for educational excellence and student success.

“The Promise Scholarship represents a significant opportunity for our students. By working closely with John A. Logan College, we are providing a clear pathway for students to achieve their higher education dreams. This program will motivate our students to excel academically and give them the confidence that a college education is within reach, Carbondale Superintendent Daniel Booth stated about the initiative.
