MARION (WSIL) -- All students in the Marion Unit #2 district will be able to get a free library card.
An agreement reached Thursday between the city, Marion Carnegie Library, and the school district provides the library's resources and services to all Unit #2 students for free, regardless of their address.
Typically, Illinois State Library policy requires anyone living outside the library district to pay a fee.
“This agreement will ensure that Marion students will be equipped with every possible resource they need to succeed. said Mayor Mike Absher. “The Marion Carnegie Library continues to lead the way as the best public library in our region. Allowing all of our students the opportunity to take advantage of the Library’s abundance of resources and services will supplement the quality education Marion Unit #2 offers.
To sign up at Marion Carnegie Library, bring a student ID card or proof of enrollment in a Marion Unit #2 school.
Staff will then issue a library card in the student's name, giving them access to print and online resources.
