Multi-million dollar donation to lead to student, community growth

PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) --  A $15 million donation to a small community college in Paducah is set to make a big impact.

West Kentucky Community and Technical College says, , and they are still in disbelief.

The $15 million comes from billionaire philanthropist, MacKenzie Scott, as part of her commitment to the Giving Pledge. When the school received the initial call in regards to the donation, they believed it was a hoax.

"I was still in disbelief, and they followed up in writing, that still created more disbelief, so I had to go through two or three different versions of disbelief until the official word came on that website," says WKCTC President, Dr. Anton Reece. "I was holding my breath all along the way."

Reece adds that the unrestricted nature of the donation allows the school to use it however they choose. He says portions of it will have an immediate impact on securing both short-term and long-term goals.
