DAHLGREN, ILLINOIS (WSIL) -- While many may be celebrating Valentine's Day weekend, there's one local kid who doesn't want you to forget it's also President's Day weekend.

Johnathon Showalter is a third grade student and stole the hearts of viewers last year. His then teacher, Lynn Belangee, contacted News 3 astonished with his ability to name all U.S. Presidents and facts about each one.

She noticed this on the first day of his second grade year, when she asked the student what they did over the summer. His response was learn about U.S. Presidents.

During , Showalter rattled off the first and last names of all U.S. presidents in 35 seconds. He also spouted facts about Founding Fathers and the accomplishments of Abraham Lincoln -- his favorite Commander-in-Chief.

We brought him back this year since his interest has only grown. On his free time, he studies flashcards and even writes to Presidents. So far, he's received responses from Donald Trump, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.

Some new things that Showalter has learned and shared with viewers include:

  • Calvin Coolidge liked to have Vaseline rubbed on his head while eating breakfast
  • Herbert Hoover kept two alligators in the bathtub
  • Thomas Jefferson hated public speaking so much he only gave two speeches during his presidency

He also says there's some advice that Donald Trump should leave for Joe Biden on taking the oval office.

"To help people who don't know God to know him," he explains. "Also he should give the advice to be kind and respectful to all people at the White House."

News 3' Brooke Schlyer couldn't let him leave empty handed, so she decided to study up herself. She brought snacks that U.S. Presidents liked to nibble on and gave clues to see if Showalter could guess.

Surprise. Surprise. He got 5/5 and kept all the treats!
