ELDORADO (WSIL) -- An Eldorado family is encouraging everyone to help bring a 5-year-old girl some joy as she battles a rare cancer.
Indy Jones has been battling Pleuropulmonary Blastoma Type 3 since 2018. It's a rare cancer that formed a large tumor in her left lung.
"They did their routine, like, baseline check-ups and discovered that part of her tumor had started to branch to her heart. So she had surgery pretty quickly after diagnosis and they removed the tumor," said mother Whittney Jones
After a heavy amount of treatment Jones's chest scan was clear. But in April 2019, the cancer moved to her brain.
"We've gone through radiation, and a couple of different types of chemotherapy. Her most recent one was called Metronomic treatment and it was quite a few different medications that she was trying. And it worked for a little bit," she said.
Since then, her tumors have continued to grow. And now Jones's next treatment will require her to travel frequently to Indianapolis.
"It's been pretty intense, so I started our probably around the time she was diagnosed," she said.
The page has reached hundreds of people across the country. Jones's family says she's received many gifts and lots of mail.
The goal: to bring a smile to her face.
"P.O. Box 462 in Eldorado, Illinois 62930. And we just ask people to send a card or drawing," she said.
Jones says she really appreciates the support from everyone as they continue to find a cure.
"Just our community alone, has been, like, so great. They've done so many and different fundraisers for us. And they're constantly reaching out and just letting us know they're still around if we need anything," she said.
Her mother says they're planning to go see fireworks for the 4th of July.
