(WSIL) -- Police officers and first responders from across southern Illinois will escort a fallen officer home Friday.
Brian Pierce, Junior was struck and killed by a car early Wednesday morning while attempting to put down spike strips to stop a fleeing suspect. Officer Pierce lived in Carbondale but was working for the Brooklyn, Illinois police in the Metro East area.

His body will be escorted from the Madison County morgue to Meredith-Waddell funeral home in Herrin.
Local police, fire and ambulance personnel along with the public are encouraged to honor Officer Pierce along his journey.

The 2-hour long procession will leave Madison County at 11:30 Friday morning and travel I-64 and I-57 to the Herrin exit arriving at the funeral home around 1:30 pm.
