CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- A lot of people had Monday off for the 4th of July. It was a hot one, so staying cool was important.
News 3 went to the Carbondale Splash Park and spoke to a few families who say they wanted to get out and do something fun while also beating the heat.
Families visited the Carbondale Splash Park to keep cool during the summer heat. One of them tells News 3 they liked the water slide.
"It goes fast and at the end of it, there's a big pit of water," says Tatiana Alexander.
A young visitor says Monday was her first time visiting in a while and that she had a fun time on the slide, too.
"It was fun going down there, you know, all the twists and turns. I liked the turnabout thing where I got to get on the inflatable floaty," says Samariea Shaw.
Another family says they wanted to do something different from staying indoors.
"It was amazing," says Monta Jenkins.
"We got on the lazy river, we got in the water. It was fun. Because it was really hot. It's really hot and we didn't want to stay in the house," says Zyan Jenkins.
The Jenkins family also wants to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July.
