WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (WSIL) -- One local veteran and his family are coming together to honor and celebrate the freedom our nation provides.
They were out early Sunday morning on the Wolf Creek overpass flying the American Flag. Williamson County resident Wendell Stritzel, his wife, kids and grandkids waved as honking vehicles passed by below.
"It does me good to be out here," says the Vietnam veteran. "It really does me good to see people wave, honk and wave back and express the same thing that we're feeling here, the fact that we love this flag and we have our opportunity to show it."
This is the second year for the family to join Stritzel fly the flag from over-passes. After Wolf Creek, they moved locations to an overpass on I-57, where he says the heavier traffic offers a continuous chorus of support.
The family plans to return on July 4th each year when possible, says Stritzel, honoring America and its Veterans, keeping a patriotic spirit at the heart of celebrating our nation's independence.
