CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Firefighters from around the region are assisting Carbondale Fire Department in a business fire on Industrial Park Road in Carbondale Sunday night.Â
The fire broke out about 7 p-m. and the firefight has lasted for hours as crews on scene used ladder trucks to get a handle on the fire.Â
Witnesses tell News 3 they saw a glowing orange cloud over Mayberry Moving and Storage behind Springfield Electric off Highway 51.Â
"I was on my way home, and we saw a huge smoke cloud, so we kept driving and then saw fire," Bradford said. "They had cop cars and fire trucks blocking the road."
Carbondale resident Jae Naugle, who said he is a former firefighter in Michigan, was watching the massive effort by the firefighters.
"We couldn't really see much, the building had already collapsed," Naugle said. "Still burning on the south and west sides but under the metal siding and roofing."
Naugle said it appeared the tower trucks were trying to get water on the seat of the fire that was blocked by the collapsed portion of the building.Â
"It was under all the metal. Fire department personal were walking around on the south side - most likely looking at ways to get to the main fire," Naugle said.
Naugle speculated it may take a while and may require heavy equipment to move the metal structure to get to all the hot spots.Â
Right now there is no reports of injuries and it's still too early to know what sparked the blaze.Â
