First annual Douglas K. Deaton Memorial Polar Plunge taking place this week

New polar plunge event set to take place Saturday

In honor of Douglas Deaton, money raised from the polar plunge will go toward ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois families battling the disease.

MARION, Ill. (WSIL) � The first annual Douglas K. Deaton Polar Plunge is on Saturday. 

The event honors the late Douglas Deaton, who passed away in February 2024. Deaton was known for helping those fighting cancer. 

The money raised from the polar plunge will go toward ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý Illinois families facing financial burdens in the fight against the disease. 

The polar plunge will take place on February 22nd at the Lake of Egypt. 

Organizers say there will be live music from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., a fish fry, and giveaways.
