CARBONDALE, IL (WSIL) -- Nothing "beets" fresh fruits and vegetables, and there's an opportunity to get some of those for free.Ìý

September 14th is Customer Appreciation Day at the Carbondale Farmers Market. To celebrate, Meridian Health Plan of Illinois wants to help visitors go home with healthy, nutritious foods.Ìý

The farmers market will have a cooking demonstration area with recipe demos and free food samples. Meridian will have a booth set up nearby.

Members in Meridian health plans who show their member ID at the company’s booth will receive a $15 fresh produce voucher. Meanwhile, non members can receive a $5 fresh produce voucher.Ìý

Meridian says it will also provide healthy recipes, nutrition information, and resources on health education as well as offer support with basic needs.ÌýÌý

Don't forget the farmers market also accepts SNAP and LinkUp match benefits. This means shoppers get $1-for-$1 match for SNAP transactions -- up to $25 per swipe with unlimited swipes.Ìý

The Carbondale Farmers Market is from 8AM-12PM every Saturday (rain or shine) from late March-early December at the Westown Mall Parking lot.Ìý
