UNION COUNTY (WSIL) -- The Department of Health and Human services has awarded a $200,000 grant to Rural Health Inc. in Anna.

The funds were awarded through the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program.

The health center says the money will help provide new resources to combat the opioid epidemic in southern Illinois.

"This is only going to strengthen the communities we serve, you know? With only proper prevention, treatment, and recovery services, will we finally be able to see a reduction in opioid-related fatalities and addictions," said Community Outreach Coordinator Chase Hileman.

The health center says they'll also continue their community surveys, which help identify drug-related issues in Union County.
