...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in
Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro affecting Jackson County.

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Franklin and Williamson
Counties.

.The Big Muddy River continues to rise due to heavy rain last week
and over the weekend. The river will crest on Thursday before
starting a very slow fall.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

forecast.

* WHERE...Big Muddy River near Plumfield.

* WHEN...Until further notice.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 10:00 AM CDT Tuesday the stage was 28.1 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 31.0
feet early Thursday morning.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of
30.7 feet on 01/26/1949.

Herrin's Charlie "Santa" Groves dies

HERRIN (WSIL) -- The man the community of Herrin knew as "Santa" has died.Ìý

According to the Herrin Independent, Charlie Groves died at his home Thursday morning.Ìý

His children posted "We would like to let you know our dad, Charlie Groves passed away this morning. He is cancer free, pain free and in Heaven with our mom Yvonne. Thank you for the love, support and prayers."Ìý

Charlie was battling Stage 4Ìýpancreatic cancer and was known for playing the role of Santa for more than 40 years.

Just 10 days ago, the community came together and held a drive-by parade for Charlie outside his home.ÌýMore than 100 cars participated in the festivities, including Herrin Fire and Police.Ìý

During the parade, Herrin Mayor Steve Frattini honored Charlie "Santa" Groves with the Mayor's Award for his dedication to the community.Ìý
