MT. VERNON, Ill. (WSIL) � UPDATE: 2:42 p.m. -- Three people were arrested in connection to an investigation into a homicide in Mt. Vernon.
The Mount Vernon Police Department said two suspects were first arrested on Monday and then a third suspect was identified.
The Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office High Risk Team then went out and took the third suspect into custody after they served search warrant at a home in the 500-block of S. 17th Street at 8:15 p.m. on Monday.

Laura Lee Beneway, 60 of Bonnie, IL � Charged with two counts of 1st degree murder involving a forcible felony (robbery), one count of concealing a homicidal death and one count of obstructing justice.

Eddie G. Bennett, 67 of Mt. Vernon, IL � Charged with two counts of 1st degree murder forcible felony (robbery) and one count of 1st degree murder (act of probability of death).

Peter M. Harris, 66 of Mt. Vernon, IL � Charged with two counts of 1st degree murder involving a forcible felony (robbery), once count of one count of 1st degree murder (act of probability of death), and obstructing justice.

The victim was identified as Patrick Williamson, 57 of Mt. Vernon.
ORIGINAL: 7:18 a.m. -- Mt. Vernon Police are currently investigating after one man was found dead in a home.Â
On Monday, March 24th at around 6 a.m. police responded to a call of a deceased man on the 600 block of S. 15th Street.Â
Multiple agencies responded including the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Mt. Vernon Fire Department.Â
Police determined that foul play was suspected and that the man was murdered.Â
During the investigation, two people were arrested and suspected to be involved in the crime.Â
Later, police say a search warrant was obtained for another home on the 500 block of S. 17th Street.Â
Police say at around 8:15 p.m. a third suspect was arrested.Â
Mount Vernon's Police Chief Robert Brands says they are still working on the motives behind the homicide.
“We're still doing some more interviews and reinitiating interviews with the suspects that we've already interviewed,� Brands said.
Brands says they found Williamson's body after an ambulance service responded to the call at 6 A.M. Monday.
“Officers arrived and determined that it was suspicious circumstances and called in our investigators,� Brands said.
He says their investigators found the suspects within the same day and began working with the Jefferson County State's Attorney to announce charges.
“There'll still be quite a bit of investigation continuing to go to help support the evidence and hopefully to obtain a conviction in court,� Brands said.
This investigation is ongoing.
