(WSIL) -- This latest pandemic shortage might surprise you: it's chlorine. If you own a pool, it might be harder for you to buy the sanitizing chlorine tablets.
Analysts say supply is running low after a major fire at a Louisiana chemical plant in August 2020. Demand is up and supply is down-so chlorine prices have sky-rocketed.
Marion's Aloha Pools Sales Manager Kimo Davidson says their prices have gone up about 6%. She gave News 3 some alternatives for customers to try.
"There's a tablet called an NST Tablet. It is a non-stabilize tablet and there is not a shortage on that tablet. There are chlorine alternatives such as bacquacil such as the frog system, which does have chlorine, but uses much less chlorine. There are UV and ozone systems, which don't require the same amount of chlorine as a traditional chlorine system," said Kimo Davidson.
Davidson says their stores are allowing one chlorine bucket per person and they can hold orders for 24 hours.
