SPRINGFIELD, Ill. Students in Illinois could soon learn how to manage their money before they graduate thanks to a new in Springfield.
Sponsors say far too many students don’t learn about personal finances while in school. Illinois students rank 22nd in the country in financial literacy. Rep. Maura Hirschauer (D-Batavia) explained Illinois ranks 42nd for student access to personal finance classes.
The proposal only adds an option for one semester or part of a semester of financial literacy to the social studies requirement for high school graduates.
This measure passed out of the Senate last month and now heads to the House floor. House Bill 1830 would take effect immediately if approved by the House and Gov. JB Pritzker.
