13 WREX spoke with local makers about the aircraft and those aboard seeking asylum. Republican State Representative John Cabello and Democrat Dave Vella share their thoughts on the situation
ROCKFORD  Over 300 migrants flew into Rockford overnight at the Chicago Rockford International Airport, then departed for Chicago.
After landing, the flight chartered by Texas Governor Greg Abbott brought from San Antonio those on board loaded buses escorted along I-90 and into McHenry County. The City Of Rockford and Winnebago County officials do not know of any more flights transporting migrants to the Stateline.
13 WREX spoke with local makers about the aircraft and those aboard seeking asylum. Republican State Representative John Cabello feels some people seeking asylum in the United States should travel elsewhere.
"We need to make sure that if they are asylum seekers, they follow the law. The law says that if you are going to be an asylum seeker, you must seek asylum in the closest country that you live in that is not the United States for many of these folks," said Cabello.

Democratic State Representative Dave Vella learned of the Eastern Airlines aircraft landing earlier this morning. After learning the plane was being redirected, Vella feels local officials should have been notified sooner.
"I don’t like that a Governor from another state without contacting our leaders in the Stateline put 350 sum people here. I didn't think it was right. He should have at least contacted us and let us know he was going to do this, said Vella.

The representatives both agree that the City and County governments handled the situation to the best of their ability under short notice.
