COOK COUNTY, Ill (WREX) One ISP Trooper is hurt after a Scott's Law Crash on Saturday.
ISP says the trooper was conducting a traffic stop just before midnight on the southbound lanes of Interstate 94 when a suspected drunk driver hit him.
The driver stopped after hitting the officer and received multiple charges including driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed and a violation of Scott's Law.
The trooper went to the hospital, but was later released and it expected to be okay.
Scott's Law crashes are already double what they were in 2020 despite being only two thirds through the year.
ISP Director Brendan Kelly believes this crash along with all the other Scott's Law violations this year are easily preventable.
“Scott’s Law crashes and driving while under the influence, are callous crimes and both totally preventable," Kelly said. "We will continue to enforce for the safety and well-being of all of our citizens.
ISP continues to press upon people to slow down and move over for vehicles with emergency lights.
