Amtrak Train Crashes with Semi-Truck in Jackson County, One Seriously Injured

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. -- Authorities responded to the scene of a crash involving an Amtrak train and a semi-truck in Jackson County on Wednesday afternoon at 1:53.

This happened in the area of Helms Road and Burris Road, between Carbondale and De Soto, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said the semi-truck was driving over the railroad tracks when the southbound train collided with the truck.

The driver of the truck was reportedly taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

No injuries were reported from any passengers on the train.

According to , the Saluki line from Chicago to Carbondale was running an hour and 30 minutes late, as of 3:11 p.m.
