...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in
Illinois...

Big Muddy River near Murphysboro affecting Jackson County.

Big Muddy River near Plumfield affecting Franklin and Williamson
Counties.

.The Big Muddy River continues to rise due to heavy rain last week
and over the weekend. The river will crest on Thursday before
starting a very slow fall.

For the Big Muddy River...including Plumfield, Murphysboro...Major
flooding is forecast.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

forecast.

* WHERE...Big Muddy River near Plumfield.

* WHEN...Until further notice.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 8:30 PM CDT Tuesday the stage was 28.2 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 30.7
feet early Thursday morning.
- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.

Benton police welcomes K9 officer to the force

BENTON, Ill. -- The Benton Police Department introduced their newest member, a K9 officer named Echo.

Benton Police Officer Jeremy Watkins and Echo will begin a six-week training program on June 5th at the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department K9 training facility.

After graduating and state certification, the two will start patrolling the Benton community on a full-time basis.

Police said the new K9 program was made possible by donations from area citizens and businesses throughout the community.

"On behalf of the Benton Police Department and the City of Benton we thank you!" Benton police said in a Facebook post.

They also said this program will help to reduce the use and trafficking of unlawful narcotics and will make the community a safer place.
