Voters took to the polls on November 5, casting their ballots and choosing who to fill the seat of the Alexander County Commissioner.
The Alexander County Commissioner was a tossup between Larry "Steve" Essex (D) and James R. Smith (R).
After polls closed on November 5, election officials counted the ballots to reach a vote total with Smith leading over Essex 1,081 to 1,078.
Two weeks later, the results are now official with Smith winning with 1,082 votes to 1,078.
