MARION, Ill. -- A southern Illinois organization was recently announced as a finalist for the prestigious Governor's Hometown Award.
Marion Connects announced they were selected as one of the award finalists which recognizes volunteer organizations.
This prestigious award honors communities and organizations that have made significant contributions to their communities through volunteerism and community service, Marion Connects described.
"We are honored to be among the top four finalists for this esteemed award," said Alisha Carruthers, Vice President of Marion Connects. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our volunteers, sponsors, community members, and the City of Marion who have supported our initiatives."
Marion Connects will be judged as part of the final round on August 14, at the Illinois State Fair.
The winners will be announced at a formal reception at Erin's Pavilion in Springfield, Illinois.
"We are proud to represent Marion and look forward to showcasing our Community’s spirit and commitment to service," said Alisha. "We are eager to bring home the Governor's Silver Cup and share this achievement with our community."
A joint fundraiser is also taking place with Marion Connects and Veterans Honor Flight on Saturday, August 3, at the Harry L. Crisp Sports Complex in Marion. It's called the 2024 Marion Patriot Festival starting at 4 p.m. and runs through the night.
More than 15 vendors will be on hand from 4 p.m. through 9 p.m. and a free movie night starts at 8 p.m., showing The Goonies. Live entertainment will also be on hand. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs and blankets for this fun event!
