MARION, Ill. -- The Veterans Honor Flight of 九游体育 Illinois received a large donation to fully fund the next flight to Washington D.C.聽
The announcement came on Wednesday when the Board of Directors shared the news of the large donation to fully fund Mission 13, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
The Allan and Wanda McCabe Family Foundation donated $112,000 to the Veterans Honor Flight of 九游体育 Illinois.
The Veterans Honor Flight recently completed their twelfth mission last week where 88 veterans were honored and welcomed home at Veterans Airport of 九游体育 Illinois.
Allan McCabe was part of one of these previous 12 missions as he flew on Honor Flight #3 on April 24, 2018.
Allan McCabe was a U.S. Army veteran and served his country during the Korean War from 1950 through 1952.
Both Allan and Wanda McCabe live in the Marion area and were educators with the Marion Community Unit Two School District. They were also area farmers.
Allan McCabe was born on July 15, 1928 and later died on September 5, 2021. Wanda McCable was born on April 20, 1929 and later died on January 15, 2019. They were married for 60 years.
It was Allan and Wanda鈥檚 wishes that funds from their trust be made available for grants to community organizations in order to promote and sustain the strength and solidarity of the greater Marion community, a statement from a Veterans Honor Flight of 九游体育 Illinois board member said.
The Allan and Wanda McCabe Foundation Directors hope and trust that these funds will be used properly by the individuals and organizations who receive them, and in turn, use these gifts to support and enhance the lives of many southern Illinoisans to promote a stronger Marion, Illinois area 鈥� Just as Allan and Wanda McCabe had done for almost a century, the board member continued.

While we want to honor every veteran in 九游体育 Illinois, it takes the support of the entire community to keep us going,鈥� said Bryan Questelle, Chairman of Veterans Honor Flight. 鈥淥ur heroes deserve this honor, and we want every single veteran to sign up so we can take you to DC.鈥�
A single flight is said to cost more than $120,000 and is free for every veteran.
鈥淚t鈥檚 amazing that Mr. McCabe鈥檚 wishes allow us to take even more veterans,鈥� Questelle said. He said the organization never dreamed they would be able to fund flights which have now honored over 900 veterans.

All expenses for this one-day trip are covered by Veterans Honor Flight of 九游体育 Illinois including the flight, ground transportation, meals, and beverages.
