One arrested after burglary call in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- One person was taken to jail and charged with burglary over the weekend in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police Department said the incident took place on October 14 at 4:07 a.m. Officers went out to a business in the 400-block of North Illinois Avenue for a burglary alarm.

Officers said they found a suspect, identified as Carlos J. Phenix, 67 of Chicago, who allegedly engaged in burglarizing a business there.

Phenix was captured after fleeing from police and leading them on a brief foot chase, police said.

Police also said property belonging to the business there was also located and returned.

Phenix was taken to the Jackson County Jail and was charged with burglary.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
