CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- One person was flown out to a regional hospital and police say they are in critical condition after a crash in Carbondale early Saturday morning.
The Carbondale Police Department reported the crash happened at 1:59 a.m. on October 19, at the intersection of East Walnut Street and Giant City Road.
Police in Carbondale said their officers and firefighters responded to the crash where a vehicle crashed into traffic signal posts and then rolled over multiple times.
Two people were in the vehicle and the driver had to be helped out, police said. The driver was reported to have had major injuries while the passenger was stated to have no visible injuries.
Police said the driver was then taken to the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale and then later flown out to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment and is in critical condition.
The traffic signals on Walnut Street and Giant City Road will need to be repaired and the intersection signals will likely be flashing red throughout the weekend, police added.
