JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. -- One man is dead and two others injured after a two-vehicle crash in Jackson County on Thursday afternoon.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said it happened at 1:51 p.m. on February 15, along Old Highway 13 near Wood Road in the rural part of Carbondale.
Deputies responded to the two-vehicle crash with a report of one of the vehicles rolled over with people still trapped inside.
The sheriff's office said the investigation determined a black 2020 Alfa Romeo was driven by Joe Love, 34 of Murphysboro. Moments before the incident, Love was going west on Old Highway 13 when a white 2010 Toyota Corolla, driven by Barbara Perkins, 45 of Carbondale, was exiting a private drive.
The Corolla then pulled out and into the path of the Alfa Romeo, which resulted in the Alfa Romeo colliding with the Corolla, then losing control, hitting a utility pole and then rolling over, according to the sheriff's office.
Love and a passenger were removed from the vehicle by EMS on scene.
All three involved in the crash were taken to area hospitals. Perkins was treated and later released while Love's passenger was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Love later died from his injuries.
This crash is under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff鈥檚 Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
Assisting on the call was the Jackson County Ambulance Service, Carbondale Township Fire Department and Jackson County Coroner鈥檚 Office.
The roadway was closed for approximately 3.5 hours as crews were on scene.
