One faces assault, robbery charges after chase through businesses in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- One person has been charged with multiple felonies in an armed robbery and shots fired investigation on Tuesday night.

Carbondale Police Department went out to the area of Chili's in the 1200-block of East Main Street for a report of shots fired at around 6:30 p.m.

Officers found out a robbery happened in the parking lot in the area, which led to a chase between the victim's friends and the suspect, later identified as Juan M. Rivera, 30 of Carbondale.

Police said the chase ended up going in and out of nearby businesses on East Main.

The chase ended up going to a parking lot near Chili's where police said the victim fired a gun at the suspect. Nobody was injured however.

Police took Rivera into custody and was taken to the Jackson County Jail. He now faces assault, aggravated robbery and aggravated battery charges.

Police said the robbery victim who fired the gun is not facing charges at this time.

The investigation is active and ongoing.聽
