Possible lightning strikes church in Massac County. Heavy fire damage reported

MASSAC COUNTY, Ill. -- Storms caused another fire in Southern Illinois early Monday morning.

The Massac County Emergency Management Agency's Brian Horn said a church caught fire at the time when storms passed through the area.

Horn said a possible lightning strike hit the St. John's Church. This is located along Waldo Church Road near Deer Run Road.

Area fire crews rushed to the scene after getting the report at 4:19 a.m.

The fire caused heavy damage to the structure.

No injuries were reported.
