CARBONDALE, Ill. -- UPDATE: 7:05 a.m. - Police said the area is secure and the roadway is back open. Carbondale police officers are still on S. Oakland Avenue at this time.
ORIGINAL: 6:50 a.m. - Police are alerting the public to stay away from a particular area in Carbondale on Tuesday morning.
The Carbondale Police Department said they have officers in the area of the 300-block of S. Oakland Avenue and the road is closed.
They alerted the public at 6:47 a.m. to avoid the area.
