- At 8:30 PM CDT Tuesday the stage was 24.8 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage
late Sunday evening and continue falling to 17.5 feet

- Flood stage is 20.0 feet.

Section of Illinois 37 Closed North of Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, Ill. -- A section of highway is closed in Jefferson County and authorities are alerting drivers to take another route.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office alerted the public just before 9 a.m. on July 9, about the road closure.

The sheriff's office said the section of Highway 37 between Radio Tower Road and Heritage Road, near Diamond Equipment, is closed.

The road will be closed for an extended period of time and drivers are to seek alternative routes, the sheriff's office said.
