Sesser native serves aboard US Navy ship in South China Sea

SOUTH CHINA SEA (WSIL) -- A Sesser man is serving aboard the USS Sterett in the South China Sea as part of routine operations.

The Navy Office of Community Outreach stated the USS Sterett is conducting the operations as part of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group in early January.

Gunner's Mate 2nd Class James Pool, of Sesser, is aboard the ship.

In one photo, Pool is seen firing a shotline on the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett. This took place on January 4, during a replenishment exchange with the USNS Richard E. Byrd ship.

The USNS Richard E. Byrd is a Clark-class dry cargo and ammunition ship.

The routine operations, in which Pool is apart of, is taking place in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
