ULLIN, Ill. (WSIL) --Â Shawnee Community College is helping victims of a recent hurricane.
The Cosmetology Club at Shawnee Community College is asking the public to donate bags and drop them off at their department on campus. The bags will then be turned into warming mats for those displaced by Hurricane Helene.
Officials said it takes up to 700 plastic bags to make one warming mat.
We spoke with the President of the Cosmetology Club Taylor McAllister. She said they just want to help those impacted by the hurricane.
"Basically, we are just trying to help people. I mean I can't imagine going through a devastating heartache like that so we just trying to help people honestly," said McAllister.
If you would like to donate plastic bags for this cause, you can go to Shawnee Community College and drop them off until December 16th.
