FREEMANSPUR, Ill. -- Fire crews responded to a home on fire in Franklin County Friday morning.
Firefighters from the West Frankfort Fire Department went to a structure fire call on Cedar Street in Freemanspur, between West Frankfort and Herrin, where a garage, turned into apartment, was on fire.
West Frankfort Fire Chief Derek Sailliez said two people, along with some pets, were able escape the home.
Sailliez said the fire and smoke caused major damage throughout the structure.
The fire is under investigation.
Assisting with the call was the Williamson County Fire Protection District, Herrin Fire Department, Benton Fire Department and Abbott EMS.
Sailliez also urged safety with portable heaters.
