1 person seriously injured in Carbondale hit-and-run crash

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A car believed to be involved in a hit-and-run investigation out of Carbondale has been found.

Carbondale Police Department said the incident happened on September 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the 400-block of East Walnut Street.

Officers arrived to the scene and found someone seriously injured. That person was taken to the hospital.

Witnesses earlier said the suspect was driving a silver or gray SUV. They were last seen turning south on South Graham Street from East Walnut Street.

Detectives looked at intersection cameras and discovered the vehicle is a 2010 Nissan Rogue, Illinois license plate K60 0864.

On November 19, police received a tip from the public about a car in relation to this case.

Police served a search warrant in Herrin and found the vehicle under a tarp in the backyard of a home. They then seized the vehicle as part of this investigation.

In early October, authorities said they were looking for Dewone D. Miller, 37 of Marion who was the suspect involved in the incident. Police obtained an arrest warrant which then charged Miller with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving personal injury and aggravated battery.

On November 13, officers responded to the area of South Lewis Lane where they were alerted Miller was at.

Once officers saw Miller, he then ran away from the officers but was shortly taken into custody after a short foot chase, police said.

Miller was then taken to the Jackson County Jail.

Police said the injured victim is still in the hospital as of November 21.
