KUTTAWA, Ky. (WSIL) -- A local couple were in disbelief after they won $50,000 in a Powerball drawing, months after they moved to the western Kentucky area.
The couple purchased a Powerball ticket on October 19 at a BP gas station in Kuttawa. Hours later, the numbers were drawn, however, the couple was unaware they won until the next morning.
They checked their ticket on Sunday morning and matched four white ball numbers and the Powerball to win $50,000.
The couple moved to western Kentucky, just weeks before Hurricane Helene hit.
Before driving to the Kentucky Lottery headquarters to claim their prize, they went to Walmart to scan the ticket and verify what they won.
“We tried to be really discreet about it, the couple said.
After taxes, the couple took home $36,000. And the BP station will receive $500 for selling the ticket.
