MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. -- A rolling roadblock is planned on the I-24 Tennessee River bridge in Marshall County on Friday night.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) - District 1, said crews will be out along I-24 on Friday night in Marshall County starting around 9:30 p.m.
This work is scheduled for the westbound lanes of I-24, starting at the 36 mile marker. The road will be blocked going westbound on ramp KY 453 (Dover Road) and through the time the rolling roadblock passes.
Vehicles are encouraged to use KY 453 south to U.S. 62, then follow the highway to I-24 at Calvert City.
For other motorists detouring around, they can take Exit 40 at Kuttawa to U.S. 62 and then onto I-24 at Calvert City.
KYTC says Spartan Contracting will remove rigging which was mounted to the westbound bridge which will then later be installed on the eastbound bridge next week.
Crews will not be doing any work over the Labor Day weekend and the roadways will be free for motorists to drive through without any interruption.
On September 3, crews will start setting up barriers and hanging rigging on the eastbound bridge. They will later use this to paint the bridge which could take two to four days. During this time, there will be a single lane closure possible during the overnight hours.
There will also be message boards in place on the interstate to help inform passing motorists on road conditions.
