CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- A local barber has retired after working 55 years in the Carbondale community.
Kenneth Mason tells News 3 he didn't originally plan on being a barber.
But after going to barber school and taking over Arnette's Barbershop, he found his passion for cutting hair.
Mason says some of his best memories are "back to school" haircuts and doing hair at senior living centers.
"I learned that you have to give. You give and you receive and if you do that--I was taught that going to church all the time: as long as you give something God will take care of you. He will make sure that you do the right thing and He will bless you," he said.
Mason says now with the new ownership, he's going to go to the gym more often, but he'll visit the shop from time to time.
