JACKSON, Mo. (WSIL) â€ The snowy regions will make for hazardous driving conditions.Â
Jackson Fire Rescue says during times like these, if you don't have to go out, stay home.Â
If you have to leave home, officials say to drive slowly. Adjusting speed down accounts for lower traction. They also say to accelerate and decelerate slowly.Â
As it takes longer to slow down in snowy conditions, make sure you give yourself enough distance between you and the car in front of you.Â
Fire officials say it's better to avoid abrupt stops. If you can slow down enough, keep rolling until the traffic light changes.Â
Jackson Fire Rescue advises against powering up hills. Applying more gas will only cause tires to spin. If you do move uphill, do not stop. Officials say stopping could stop the momentum of the climb.Â
If you do encounter a roadway emergency or accident, contact your local police department.
