Local Firefighters receive an award for saving a life

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (WSIL) -- A group of firefighters are being recognized for saving a life.Ìý

The says the men received a Clinical Save certificate for their hard work and efforts.

On August 6th, 2024, Engine 4 was dispatched to a home for a male patient who was unresponsive. Meanwhile, Rescue 2 and Battalion 1 were dispatched as additional responders.

On arrival, firefighters with Engine 4 found the male victim lying on the floor unresponsive, not breathing, with no pulse. Personnel immediately began manual CPR.

When the ambulance arrived on scene, EMS attached a cardiac monitor. Then, Rescue 2 and Battalion 1 arrived on scene and began helping Engine 4 and the ambulance crew.

The male was defibrillated multiple times before being transported to the hospital. While on the way to the hospital, CPR continued. The patient regained a pulse once they arrived to healthcare facility.

In the days after the event, the patient's family gave an update that regained consciousness and would be transferred to a rehabilitation unit.
