(WSIL) -- This week honors the first, first responders with National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
Local sheriff's offices have been recognizing dispatchers for being there for their communities.
Massac County Sheriff Chad Kaylor says everyone should take a moment to say "thank you."
"They control the police, they control the jail here, so they have a very hard job. They're the first person to interact with somebody who needs police help or fire or medical help," he said.
You can leave thank you notes on your local law enforcement's social media.
