SPARTA (WSIL) -- at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex drew plenty of criticism from Southern Illinois lawmakers.
The announcement was made Monday afternoon by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) citing concerns about the coronavirus.
for Governor JB Pritzker's decision, saying he is "bitterly disappointed" and questioned the Governor's ability to lead Illinois.
State Representative Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) posted a video on Facebook Monday evening and said there was a 40 page mitigation plan with input from local health officials that was submitted to the Governor's office.
On the Governor's decision, Bryant says, "they would not listen, would not consider, and once again, have slammed Southern Illinois."
State Representative Nathan Reitz (D-Steeleville) says, "there were legislators from both sides of the aisle working together to do whatever possible to ensure this event could be held, all while assuring that the health and safety of participants and spectators was first and foremost."
