ENERGY, Ill. (WSIL) A local mayor was hospitalized, after being attacked by a passing driver.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office says it happened when 74-year-old Bengi McGee, the mayor of Energy, was surveying damage from the winter storm. They say that's when a passing driver physically attacked him.

Officials say McGee had lacerations on his face and hand. He was taken to Herrin Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
