(WSIL) -- It's been more than one year since the pandemic started, and almost one year since George Floyd's death. Now, Michael Bruce, a local artist, showcases what southern Illinois looked like in response to both.

His photography focuses on the marches for George Floyd and common sights during the initial COVID shutdown. Bruce says the photos he's taken this last year emphasize imagery and emotion.

"I felt compelled to get out and capture this while everybody was locked in and locked down. I wanted to get out and capture this, the world that we're living in, and I captured some really strong imagery by doing that," says Bruce.

Folks can find the showcase at the Little Egypt Arts Association on the square in Marion through the end of April.
