MARION (WSIL) -- Don Sol Mexican Restaurant is hosting a fundraiser for a local woman battling cancer.

Marion resident, Krista Tacderas, was diagnosed with Stage 2B breast cancer in March.

"Everything was just kind of first rolling out, so my family was able to go with me to my first appointment with my breast surgeon…but after that, everything shut down," she said.

She's been undergoing chemotherapy during the pandemic, restricting her from a support person.

"So the port is how they give you the chemo, but in the way they access it for me has been pretty painful just 'cause mine sits pretty deep and just not being able to have somebody there with me and having anxiety about new medication you're getting," she said.

To help her through the process, the managers of Don Sol Mexican in Marion decided to put together a fundraiser.

"They've supported us since 2007, so it's just a way to show our supportiveness throughout the years and helping everybody with whenever they need something and whenever they're in need of something," said manager Brittany Martinez.

On July 13th, a percentage of sales is expected to go to Tacderas and her family.

The restaurant is encouraging others to donate.

"'Cause these days, it helps to help out whenever people are in need of that. And in general, they help us out by being supportive customers," said Martinez.

Tacderas says she's grateful for the community's effort.

"I'd really like to thank Don Sol for donating what they'll be donating to our family. Especially 'cause I know it hasn't been easy on them having to shut down during the pandemic," she said.

Tacderas says she has six more rounds of chemotherapy.

She'll then prepare for a total mastectomy and a partial hysterectomy to lower the chance of her cancer coming back.
