49-year-old dead after car crashes into rear of semi-truck

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A 49-year-old is dead after a crash involving two vehicles on Wednesday in Butler County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said it happened at 12:06 p.m. along U.S. Highway 60 about two miles east of Poplar Bluff.

James Ray, 49 of Poplar Bluff, was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Trax, going west on Highway 60 when it collided the rear part of a 2015 Peterbilt Tractor Trailer. Ray’s vehicle then went off the roadway, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

Ray was taken to the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

This is the first crash related death for the Troop E area in southeast Missouri.
