85-year-old dead after vehicle vs pedestrian crash, police investigate

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- One person is dead after a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Friday.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department said their officers responded to a crash in the 700-block of Bellevue between a person and a vehicle.

Police started investigating and said a 2002 Ford Escape was going west on Bellevue from N. Sprigg Street when a pedestrian was hit. Police said the pedestrian was walking north across Bellevue at the time of the crash.

The pedestrian was then taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead.

The pedestrian was identified as Margarita Diz Fernandez, 85 of Cape Girardeau.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department's crash reconstruction team is still investigating the matter.
