CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- The renovation of an emergency department at Mercy Southeast is now complete.
This $7.9 million project involves renovations for the entire emergency department at Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau. This includes 25 exam rooms, two triage rooms, bathrooms and a new waiting room.
Renovations also include upgrades to a new X-ray machine, along with a new CT scanner. Mercy Southeast details the CT scanner which allows patients to be diagnosed faster and stabilize them more quickly, particularly when a stroke is suspected.
“This renovation dramatically improves our patients experience when they have to visit the ER, said Lori Merritt, director of emergency services. “We have new processes in place and standardized rooms and equipment to see patients quicker and get them home faster to feel better. That standardization really impacts our caregivers too, so they can more effectively care for and focus on each patient.
A ribbon cutting took place for the newly renovated emergency department on January 21. This event was attended by leaders with the City of Cape Girardeau, the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, area ambulance districts, Robinson Construction and members of the community. A blessing was also provided by Father Daniel Belken of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese.
“The completion of this renovation means better outcomes for our patients, said Eric Ammons, Mercy Southeast president and regional president for Mercy’s southeast communities. “That’s key to the kind of excellent patient experience Mercy wants our community to have. The emergency department operates 24/7, and we want to ensure everyone who arrives feels safe, cared for and welcome in keeping with Mercy’s mission of healing.
