CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- With the new year around the coroner, people will be celebrating as the clock strikes midnight.
While many will be celebrating with champagne, party hats and kazoos, others will be shooting off fireworks to bring in the new year.
One of those states residents are able to shoot off fireworks is Missouri.
Before you lights those sparklers though, you may want to check with your city or county for the rules as to what you can shoot off and when.
In Cape Girardeau, you are prohibited discharging fireworks within a certain distance of schools, hospitals and gas pumps. You may only shoot off fireworks for an hour during the transition of the new year, starting at 11:30 p.m. on December 31 through 12:30 a.m. on January 1.
